Private James Wilson

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known for certain, but on the balance of probabilities he was the James (initially named Robert) Wilson born on 5 July 1889 at Magheradrumman, Milford, County Donegal, the last of four children of farmer James Wilson and his wife Mary (nee McDougall). His mother died four days after he was born. By 1911 he was living at Magheradrumman with his grandfather, father, and various uncles, aunts and cousins, and working as a farm labourer.

Wilson enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 23 December 1910 (No.567) with James Reagh from Magheradrumman.

He embarked for France on 20 August 1914 with C Squadron, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

When his term of service ended, Wilson chose to leave the army. He was discharged at Antrim as 'time expired' on 22 December 1915.
